1.0 FTE CONTINUING ASSIGNMENT
DISTRICT ELEMENTARY COUNSELLOR
EFFECTIVE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2023
The successful candidate will:
• Have a valid teaching certificate for the Province of British Columbia and proof of current membership in the
BC College of Teachers
• Have a graduate degree in counselling
• Have recent successful experience as a counsellor
• Have recent successful teaching experience
• Have documented excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
• Have experience in working with children and adolescents with social-emotional challenges
• Have a willingness to work in a supportive and cooperative manner with existing school and district personnel
in the delivery of a comprehensive counselling program at the elementary level
• Have experience in developing I.E.P’s and behavior support plans for students exhibiting emotional and
behavioral challenges
• The ability to complete functional behavioral assessments would be an asset
• Have experience in teaching social skills and social-emotional wellbeing lessons to elementary age students
• Be skilled in providing in-service for staff on counselling strategies related to the classroom
• Embed the First Nations Principles of Learning in all subject areas
• Be committed to and practice the philosophy of inclusion
• Be committed to working as a cooperative, collaborative member of a school wide instructional team and
attend meetings as required
• Be committed to consultation, parent conferences, and positive home/school/community liaison
• Possess a valid driver’s license; travel throughout the district is a requirement
• Have an exemplary driving record as demonstrated by a current driver’s abstract
